Hawk Thoughts & Happenings
Team Pennoyer,
Ok, I can't believe we just finished up our first week of school at Pennoyer under the solar heat vortex. We made it, but here's what it read on my car Wednesday as I left work...
Let me just say that nobody should see a three digit number on their dashboard in their car...pretty crazy! I know there's a lot of information in this first edition of our Hawk Happenings, but I hope you'll take the time to read everything carefully so you're fully informed and feel connected to all that's going on. I'm excited about our Back to School Bash after school today, and celebrating tomorrow with some of our students and families in the 75th Anniversary parade for Norridge. Whatever you have planned this weekend, enjoy every bit of it in the more normal heat. I have a gig I'm excited about at the Palatine Street Fest on Saturday night, so that's what I'm doing to take my mind away from work. Hope you have some plans to unwind as well. Here's a few pics that truly made me smile this week; seeing our youngest students with their new classroom TV, 3rd grade celebrating their 3rd day, and so many of our students, staff, and families showing their love and support for Ukrainian Independence Day!
*Staff Meeting next Monday, August 28th from 3:15-4:15pm in the MPR. HERE's the agenda!
**PBIS Rewards videos and presentations. More to come as we roll out Suite 360 and PBIS Rewards. Reach out to Rachel, Adam, or Alicia with any questions. We know a lot of you could not attend both Professional Development Trainings, so I thought these might be helpful. (Note - You will have to download the videos once you click on the links.)

- Creating new Clubs at Pennoyer and Submitting Club Information for Website (Existing or New Clubs)
- If you’re interested in starting up a new club, please submit your ideas HERE! You can check out the CBA if needed for more information. For new clubs, we’ve created a helpful link on our website to showcase the wonderful opportunities for our students at Pennoyer. Please make sure once your club is approved that you create a one page Google Doc or Slide to share with Adam and Pat. Also, if you’re continuing a club from last year, please make sure the information is updated if needed...thanks!
- Here’s an EXAMPLE for your reference.
- Stipend Openings for JV Girls and JV Boys Basketball Teams...Connect w/ Adam if interested.
- PTC Meetings
- We'd love to have teacher representation whenever you feel like attending these monthly meetings! Their first meeting is next Thursday, August 31st from 5-6pm in the MPR.
- Social Club Dues - HERE is a reminder
- Sub Plans and System
- Just a friendly reminder that all teachers should create a general Emergency sub plan by Tuesday, September 5th.
- Please drop Emergency Sub Plans into this Folder and make sure everyone at Pennoyer can view…thanks!
- Here is an example of a teacher Emergency Plan for subs of needed. Time stamping is a good idea, but if you have another format that works, that’s fine too. Just make sure to include important student information a sub would need about your groups of students and a variety of viable options for your students if ever needed.
- We'll also continue to use our Internal Sub Doc as needed this year.
Weekly Hawk Playlist/Lyric
Just a heads up for new staff and a reminder to our veteran staff, this is where I'll have a weekly song from my playlist or a lyric to share each week in an attempt to be connected with something timely or often times, it's just something I'd like to share from my own love of music. Maybe it will turn some of you onto new artists, and others I hope it brings back fond memories or connections. This week, I'm feeling it's pretty obvious as we start a new school year...lol.
