Hawk Thoughts & Happenings
Team Pennoyer,
We've had so many exciting things going on leading up to this Spring Break! I have to start with the 3 on 3 basketball tournament from last Friday. It was awesome, and I couldn't have pulled it off without help from some of my Principal's Crew and our staff which included: Melissa, Monica K., Dominic, Nina, Rachel M., Alana W., Denise, and Kristin. In the end, for our 1st Annual Pennoyer 3 on 3 Basketball March Madness Tournament, we had 21 teams total enter from 3rd-8th grade and raised $513 for The American Cancer Society! It was such a cool event, and I can't wait to continue it in the coming years.
We also had our 2nd graders crushing it again this year with some amazing Leprechaun Traps that I'm positive worked in the end! Mrs. Michaels and Miss Torossi did an amazing job getting our students ready to showcase their creations for the entire school to see in the MPR.
And of course we can't forget about Spring Spirit Week! Pennoyer students and staff were in full force to celebrate with Pennoyer pride and spirit all throughout the week.
Finally, I'm not sure what everyone has planned over Spring Break, but whatever it is, I wish you nothing but a well earned rest away from school and work. I hope you can find time to relax, do things for yourself, be with family and friends, and just give yourselves a break from the incredible hard work you've all been doing for this entire school year. You make Pennoyer everything that it is, and our students and families are so lucky to have you as educators. I can't believe what I'm doing over Spring Break. It's a milestone for the Greenberg family for sure. We're taking Lennon on his first official college visits around the Midwest. We're packing up our car and headed to Michigan State, Ohio State, Miami of Ohio, and then Indiana University. Of course, it wouldn't be a Greenberg trip if I didn't slip something in there about music, so we're making a little detour stop in Cleveland when we're in Ohio to go to the Rock -n- Roll Hall of Fame that I'm super excited about! I was there after college with my own parents, but haven't been back since. Here's Lennon as a 1 year old with Jamee and here we are with this Junior in high school that is going off to college in a little over a year...crazy how time works.
Weekly Shout Outs From Ellen to both Katherine and Vicki K. AND Adam to Rachel and Melissa
"Thank you to Vicki and Katherine for their help this week. They volunteered the help of the student council to help move science supplies with me in preparation for the construction. It was great to have so many hands, especially trustworthy students. It was a great idea from Vicki and Katherine and I greatly appreciated their help. I'm so glad I have such wonderful, thoughtful co-workers!"
"Shout out to both Rachel and Melissa for supporting so much and helping finish up IAR makeup testing. I couldn't have done it without them. They took away time from other things this past week to make sure students finished and had a quiet space to complete their IAR tests they needed to makeup. I really appreciated the help!"
Hawk Action Items
- Using our New Behavior Flow Chart and Updated Referral Policy started these past couple of weeks with all of our students. Just another friendly reminder to make sure you're following things with consistency and fidelity working with our students and contacting parents for all minors and majors. Thanks again for your support and collaboration with all of this! Reach out any time along the way with any questions, concerns, or support you might need.
- If you're interested in signing up to supervise and facilitate any Behavior Academies after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, feel free to sign up on the spreadsheet. Here's a reminder about the protocol for our Behavior Academies if you're interested. *New addition to the protocol...please make sure to let the supervising teacher know you're sending someone when you sign a student up for a Behavior Academy. Thanks to everyone who has been supporting these.
- Wanna make somebody's day at Pennoyer...don't forget about our staff shout outs we'd like to get started up again this year! It's real easy; if one staff member wants to give another staff member at Pennoyer a positive shout out for something that week, just send a quick email blurb to Adam, and he'll feature it in our weekly Hawk Happenings!
Great job with all the social media posts shared for the month of March! Keep it up in April. Here's the Google Form for teachers to complete. Thanks!!!

Hawk Celebrations
I'm so incredibly excited about our celebration this week! 8th grader Julia Hnativ was nominated by Mrs. Koukari and her middle school team for the prestigious West 40 SCOTY Award this year! The SCOTY Award is the highest honor a student in our West 40 region of schools can receive. Julia was one of about 130 students total out of close to 100,000 that was bestowed this honor during a ceremony I attended with her family this past Wednesday at West Leyden High School. The SCOTY Award stands for "School Citizens of the Year", and students nominated by school staff represent the best of our educational communities. Julia was chosen for this amazing award for her willingness to help her classmates, especially those from the Ukraine. She is always so polite and kind towards others, she performs at the highest levels in both math and ELA, and is part of our peer tutoring program because of her academic success. Julia has multilingual skills to support all students when she's tutoring as well. She also stays on task each and every day in the classroom, takes great notes, participates, and puts so much effort into everything she does. Julia is a true Pennoyer Hawk that we're lucky to have at our school. She is #Pennoyerpride all the way!!!
